The villa is amazing. Would be great for a couple of families. Pizza oven, coffee machine, aga is beautiful. It’s about 15 mins out of town but beautiful and secluded. Like staying in an old manor and felt privileged to stay. We will be back

This villa is everything and more than the pictures depict! We arrived to find a garden bursting with beautiful, fragrant roses and peonies. As a fervent gardener, it was a magical moment. The house is very special, very nicely appointed, and our family of 10 found it perfect for our needs (in fact we could have accommodated a few more people!) Each bedroom unique from the next, bathrooms abound, four separate dining spaces (two inside, two outside), several distinct seating areas around the house - we were very pleased with the villa. Our favorite area was the kitchen where we would congregate in the mornings, enjoy our morning coffee and plan our day. The surrounding hill towns of Umbria/Perugia are gorgeous and provided limitless opportunity for strolling, sight-seeing, shopping. The nearby town of Spoleto is gorgeous in itself and provided everything we needed for our languid dinners at the villa. The area surrounding the villa offers hiking opportunities and the view off the rear veranda is simply amazing. My young adult children played soccer in the yard and we enjoyed the pristine pool most days. In the evenings we all cooked together in the fabulous kitchen gathering around the big communal table, making pasta, slicing prosciutto and cheeses with the professional slicer, putting that gorgeous AGA stove to full use. Afterwards we would swim or play one of the many games available, or sing around the piano. Valli was very responsive to our needs throughout our visit, setting us up with someone to show us how to use the pizza oven and directing us to biking opportunities and answering all our questions in short order. We will be back!

Peaceful location with gorgeous views of Spoleto and fabulous walks in the surrounding hills. The house has everything you need from the outdoor pool and ping pong table to a lovely piano and great book collection. Nearby Assisi is a magical place to visit and Spoleto itself is also well worth exploring.

Wonderful property situated in a secluded area in the hills close to Spoleto. An ideal property for a family holiday in a spacious Villa with all the faciltiies and amenities correctly listed on the property sheet. Valli, the property owner was absolutely charming and accomodated all our requests and was forthcoming with excellent catering options for hosting a party as well as local advice. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to friends. We stayed in the Villa during the Spoleto festival dates and it was easy to go back and forwards into town.
Great, spacious, really well equipped

relaxed & homely. We had a wonderful two weeks , artists in our group found lots of great places to paint , secluded and quiet with room for everyone to find their own corner. Good place for a real holiday where nature can do its work of helping everyone to relax , really well equipped with games and movies too and a beautiful big pool . Will definitely go back Catherine ( London)

13 of us stayed in late May as part of a family group with 2 small grandchildren included so the age range was 60 down to 15 months!! We had a wonderful time. The house is spacious and very well laid out and we never felt on top of each other. We dined in and out as there is a lovely kitchen and very large dining room as well as external space. A highlight was cooking pizzas in the outdoor oven which we did on two evenings. Its a few km out of Spoleto about 700m up in a wooded area so we felt private but there are other houses in the area so not too secluded. Spoleto is very nice with some lovely building (such as the Duomo) and its a good base for Assisi and many other local towns. As I said; we are all missing it!!

We had the most wonderful holiday at Il Castellaccio. The house is luxurious and peaceful, set in beautiful gardens surrounded by woods. This is also the perfect holiday for any food lover, quite apart from the wealth of restaurants nearby, the house is equipped with every kitchen essential and we loved making our own pizzas in the the wood fired oven. We were perfectly positioned for sightseeing and visited numerous picturesque Umbrian hill towns. This really was a perfect holiday - we returned utterly restored and hope to come back soon.

Wonderfully comfortable and well-equiped, really beautiful garden + pool with amazing views. There's always a shady spot under the trees and even a hammock, for relaxing after a hot day sightseeing. I hope very much to go back before too long - very tempting for a family Christmas break as well.

Just back from a 2 week stay at Il Castellaccio. This family house is well set up for large numbers (we were 3 families), great outdoor cooking facilities - Pizza Oven, loved by all the teenagers, Gas BBQ and BBQ. Nice large swimming pool. 2 good eating areas....one for breakfast and one for supper. Kitchen well set up and with bread machine, which was used twice daily and great coffee maker. Property clean and well maintained and owners very helpful and accommodating (providing extra beds etc). The house "black book" was full of activities to do in the area, places to visit and restaurants to try. Loved our stay....thank you.

We thoroughly enjoyed this house, perfect for a family gathering and vacation. It is extremely well equipped and maintained, with much thought invested in stocking the kitchen, game room and library. The interior is well designed and very comfortably furnished, outdoor spaces were superb, with a well- maintained pool and delightful patio behind the kitchen for meals (with adjacent outdoor grill and pizza oven!) . The owner was very helpful in arranging a cook to come in and prepare two dinners during our stay. The house was spacious and roomy, and easily accommodated our family group of 11, aged 13 to 82. The house is in a quiet, beautiful setting and serves as a good base for trips to the area (though we also spent time just relaxing at the house). It met all our needs and we rate it one of the best we have stayed in during many family gatherings abroad. We will certainly recommend this house to friends and relatives.

We nine found our accommodation to be comfortable and conveniently located. We were able to fit 11 at the dining table. Not sure where the 5th bathroom is, unless at the pool. Unfortunately, we were too early for the pool because it looked lovely but we had full benefit of the roses and peonies. It is a place ot get away but for those who need internet, the access was very limited. Be sure to visit Montefalco and the wineries. We made easy visits to Assisi, Deruta, Gubbio, Orvieto, Bevagna, the Cascades and Norcia. The caretakers were very helpful and we would definitely go back again.

We loved our 2 week vacation here. The accommodation was lovely, it felt like a 'home away from home', which made everyone in our party feel really comfortable, even the babies! The owners were amenable to every request. Daniella and her husband the caretaker were really helpful and even made us a delicious pasta sauce! The gardens were great, the pool lovely (although a little too deep), and all an easy distance to Spoleto. We would love to return and probably will! Il Castelluccio provided the perfect base from which to explore Umbria. Secluded and comfortable, the villa was well appointed and assistance available whenever required. Norcia, Bevagna, Todi and other jewels were within easy reach. Central Spoleto, as the festival started, is only 15 minutes drive so easily accessible. We recently had a wonderful stay at Il Castellaccio which not only proved to be well located for numerous day trips in lovely Umbria but was also nestled privately in the hills above Spoleto with wonderful views and access to some interesting walks. The house is well appointed with an area for every occasion. We often found ourselves sitting around the table in the kitchen planning the day ahead over breakfast or recounting the days events over an excellent red wine from Montefalco whilst pizzas cooked in the outside pizza oven (which were pretty good if I do say so myself). Being away with a young family and friends also meant there was plenty of space for everyone to occupy themselves on the odd afternoons we stayed in and around Vallocchia. Whether that be watching a DVD in the television room, playing a game of pool or reading a book in front of an open fire in the sitting room. As food lovers we were more then happy to take recommendations from the owner Valli and her family friend Mauro for many wonderful local restaurants. A highlight was when Mauro with the aid of his lovely wife came up and prepared an authentic Umbrian feast at the house. We will definitely return with family and friends in the future. We have stayed at Il Castellaccio twice, once in late autumn and recently in June. It is a proper family house and doesn't feel like the usual sort of rather impersonal rental property. Comfortable bedrooms and well equipped bathrooms - downstairs has quite a grand dining room but we mostly ate outdoors (or in the autumn when the Aga was on in the family size kitchen). We appreciated the huge American style fridge and Miele equipment, the kitchen is not modern "built in" so it probably helps if you are tidy by nature. Swimming pool is great (very deep). Setting is lovely, and what looks like a recently planted garden is coming on. We enjoyed walking in the quiet of the woods and then the contrast of driving down to Spoleto, which has some great restaurants. Also took the opportunity of buying a day return to Rome as the train connection is excellent if you feel the urge for additional sightseeing. Would definitely consider returning with a group of like-minded friends as the house is easily large enough. Recommended for: Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Romantic Getaway
